We’re dreaming of a dark Christmas. The night closes in, freezing mists swirl and even the crackle of the fire can’t quite dispel the shivers. From the ghosts of Christmas past, to the frights and delights of our own time, we’re out to hold you spellbound tonight, with an evening of words and music that evoke the ghostly atmosphere of midwinter at its spookiest.
Classic ghost stories from Dickens, Saki and Oscar Wilde mingle with dark new tales from Tony Walker and Anjali Patel – all brought eerily to life by the music of Saint-Saëns, Vivaldi, Bartók and Gounod. Sounds to make the hair stand on end, and seasonal merriment too: performed by Karen Ní Bhroin, an all-star cast and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
