Mitsuko Uchida plays Beethoven

For Wagner, Beethoven, and Bruckner, music was a way of expressing profound ideas and emotions. Tonight, Beethoven’s third piano concerto is played by the great Mitsuko Uchida; an artist who has devoted a whole lifetime to her art, yet always has something fresh and beautiful to say. 

The LPO’s former Principal Conductor Vladimir Jurowski opens the concert with the Prelude to Wagner’s final opera, Parsifal. The programme ends with Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony, written in honour of Wagner. Legend has it that the symphony’s opening theme came to Bruckner in a dream, played by an angel. And when you hear it performed live, that’s easy to believe.
