Two leading instrumental groups – period ensemble Consone Quartet and the acclaimed Chiaroscuro Quartet – join forces to present an evening of beloved classical works.
In a programme that straddles the turn of the 18th century, Haydn’s String Quartet in G major, Op 33, No 5 is followed by Beethoven’s String Quartet No 1, Op 18; before the two groups come together to play Mendelssohn’s Octet in E flat, a piece credited with the invention of the Octet as a form.
Formed at the Royal College of Music in London, the Consone Quartet launched their professional career in 2015. They were the first period instrument string quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists. Formed in 2005, Chiaroscuro Quartet comprises violinists Alina Ibragimova and Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux, violist Emilie Hörnlund and cellist Claire Thirion.
