Schubert’s Die Zauberharfe is from one of his few stage-works, and this is its cheerfully bustling overture. Alice Sara Ott brings her customary brilliance and fire to the Concerto, elegantly supported by the LSO.
Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1 is a tribute to the composer’s formidable skill at the keyboard. It has a lightness of touch alongside hints of the storminess Beethoven would become known for.
Prokofiev’s Second Symphony is a whirlwind. The first movement is forceful, with an edge-of-the-seat intensity. The second takes a gentle theme through a series of intricate variations
