Douglas Boyd directs a programme featuring a charming Haydn symphony and Strauss’ witty orchestral suite Le bourgeois gentilhomme at the Royal College of Music.
Originally written as incidental music for Molière’s 1670 play of the same name, the suite follows Jourdain, a young merchant who wishes to be an aristocrat, through nine vibrant movements flavoured by baroque dances, concluding in a lavish banquet.
Also on the programme, RCM Concerto Competition winner Kara Battley takes to the stage for Zimmermann’s concerto showcasing the full versatility of the oboe and its many different characters.
