About this event

Born blind, Nobuyuki Tsujii was a child prodigy, giving his first recital in Tokyo aged 12. He

went on to draw international acclaim when he won the gold medal of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009.

Described as ‘absolutely miraculous’ by Van Cliburn himself and ‘a stunningly gifted pianist’ by Gramophone, he has been particularly

praised for his interpretations of music in the grand Romantic tradition of Liszt and Chopin.

In this thrilling recital, he begins with one of Beethoven’s most popular sonatas, the joyous

and life-affirming Waldstein, before entering the twilit world of Liszt’s Nocturne En rêve and the demoniac virtuosity of the Mephisto Waltz No.1.

Finally he turns to Chopin, performing two of the composer’s best-loved Nocturnes and the epically poetic Sonata No.3 in B minor.
